Chapter 8 – I’m probably a useless hamster

Chen Chengduo wore a special training uniform with more than a dozen pockets on it. He picked the position closest to his chest, took out the contents, then folded the skimmed cotton yarn from the first-aid bag and stuffed it into his pocket making it look like a nest before putting the soft, powerless Shu Xiaohui in it.

That night, Chen Chengduo slept leaning against the wall. The warm feeling from the soft object on his chest made him feel a little uncomfortable at first. And when he was half asleep and half awake, he always wanted to reach for it.

It was a quiet peaceful night and there was no semi-mechanical beast attack at all.

The next day, Shu Xiaohui, who had enough sleep, stretched out his calves and opened his eyes. It was daybreak and light came in through the cloth. Shu Xiaohui turned his head around and found out that he seemed to be in a small pocket.

Shu Xiaohui stood up on the cotton yarn in his nest and looked outside with his little head against the lid of the pocket.

Chen Chengduo had already set out on the road again. Shu Xiaohui found that the direction they’re heading to was actually downtown.

Because there were more people gathered in the cities, every city became the primary target of Tate attacks. And the city centre was the most heavily invaded place.

Many buildings were almost bombed into honeycombs by the Tates’ ion-guns, threatening to collapse at any time. The roads were not so easy to walk on and there were various damaged vehicles bombarded by ion-guns everywhere.

Shu Xiaohui’s small black eyes glistened with tears, turned his eyes slightly, and stopped looking outside. He survived the disaster. At that time, he was in the suburbs and was muddleheaded. Whether it was a good thing or not, it was still hard for him to survive. When he saw such cruel situation in the city center, in his heart still lingered fear and hatred.

At this moment, the distance between a person and a hamster was so close that Chen Chengduo could feel the little hamster’s mood inside his pocket.

He stretched out his finger as he opened the pocket’s lid and rubbed its forehead with his fingertips pacifying him.

Shu Xiaohui looked up at Chen Chengduo, but from this angle he could only see someone’s tight jaw and protruding adam’s apple.

He felt that Chen Chengduo’s heart was very strong and firm. He was there like a steady mountain which let him slowly calm down.

Shu Xiaohui held out his paw and responded by scratching Chen Chengduo’s fingertips.

At this moment, Li Hui scolded in a low voice, “If you found the fallen spaceship, you must find out from which ghost planet it came from and we will slaughter it into a waste star!”

Holy shit, even if we can’t do it now, we must remember this hatred. Sooner or later, we will retaliate back.

Shu Xiaohui’s whiskers quivered when he heard this. He felt it since the beginning, Chen Chengduo’s team was already very strong. They must be doing some tasks. Several people raised their hands and threw their feet[1]. They were skilled in using guns. Obviously, they were no ordinary people even before the invasion..

Not only that, he also heard Chen Chengduo said that they were going to the semi-mechanical beasts nest in order to find the Tate’s spaceship which caused this planetary disaster!

Chen Chengduo tapped his gun with his finger and stayed silent.

This time their mission was to find the fallen warship and take all the debris back. What worried them the most was whether there would be a signal transmitter on the ship and if it had sent out a message before the crash. If another Tate’s warship arrived, it would be very difficult for their planet that was riddled with holes to withstand it.

Suo Bin who was carefully fiddling with a device said, “Boss, it’s strange that there are fewer semi-mechanical beasts around here. There haven’t been many attacks on us since last night.”

Chen Chengduo licked his dry lips, pulled out a stainless steel cup and opened it. “Then prepare for the worst case scenario. Maybe Professor Wei really got it right. They might have gathered in the crashed spaceship.”

In the bumpy car, Chen Chengduo steadily tilted the stainless steel water cup, did not let a drop of water spill out, and handed the water to a certain hamster.

After Shu Xiaohui’s small paws held up the water cup and drank from it, Chen Chengduo drank half of the bottle in a single breath, and then said, “Suo Bin, go contact No. 3 and tell him to change the air-drop site to five kilometers southwest.”

“Yes Boss.” Suo Bin responded.

“A tough battle, fortunately eldest brother found his warpet earlier than expected.” Li Hui said.

Shu Xiaohui, who was named, shrank. What role could he possibly play in the battle when he was this small!?

Chen Chengduo did not speak. He took out a compressed biscuit, broke off a small piece and handed it to Shu Xiaohui whose head was outstretched.

Shu Xiaohui slowly gnawed on the compressed biscuit and listened attentively.

“Speaking of which, Boss, have you tried out yet?” Suo Bin asked, “Warpet can be completely transformed into energy body and integrated into our bodies, so as to improve the master’s combat power. In general, it is twice the combat power.”

They were all curious about how much energy a small hamster could turn into and how much combat power it could provide to their elder brother.

Chen Chengduo raised his eyebrows and looked at them in the rearview mirror. “Why are you two so curious? Look at Scholar Shi Rui, quiet person but competent.”

At this time, Shi Rui turned his head impassively and said monotonously, “Boss, you’d better try it out.”

A hamster quickly gnawed the compressed biscuit, rubbed the residue on his little claws, stretched his neck and looked up at Chen Chengduo. There were some confusion and uneasiness in his little black eyes. He saw the bull turned into energy and integrated into Li Chitian’s body, but he did not know if he could do the same thing.

After all, these animals called warpets, whether they were bulls or the three beasts that collided with each other before, were pure animals. But he was different, he was originally a human ah!

If Chen Chengduo were could be given extra strength, of course, he would be very happy to double the fighting power of Chen Chengduo, what kind of help should that be?

Chen Chengduo’s mouth moved and looked at several pairs of expectant eyes, especially the small black eyes of his family Warpet.

Chen Chengduo reached out for his chin and rubbed it, then lightly touched Shu Xiaohui’s head, “Shi Rui, find a place to park.”

Shi Rui turned the steering wheel and turned into a relatively good office hall.

Several people got out of the car and kept a little distance from Chen Chengduo. When the battle pet became an energy body for the first time, its destructive power was enormous. It all depended on the master’s control, whether he could integrate the battle pet’s energy into his own energy in time.

Shu Xiaohui was held in the palm by Chen Chengduo. He squatted on it and grasped his paws nervously. Then he was flicked on his head. Chen Chengduo’s calm voice said, “No fear.”

Shu Xiaohui pointed his little head.

“Eldest brother’s warpet seems to have a higher IQ than my little Black Hawk.” Suo Bin said.

“Did you just find out? Those of us are ferocious eaters. Eldest brother’s pet can store guns and ammunition on its own. It’s a coincidence that you choose the most powerful assault with howitzers among the popular air-drop bags,” said Li Hui.

“Shut up, you two!” Shi Rui said.

They stopped talking immediately and looked at the strange man and a hamster from afar.

The process of transforming a battle pet into an energetic body is not complicated. Communication at the level of consciousness, and then commanding it to transform, is fine.

As the leading party, Chen Chengduo and Shu Xiaohui soon entered the consciousness synergy. Compared with the previous two times, this time it was clearer and more stable.

However, no matter how hard a person and a hamster tried to coordinate their consciousness, Shu Xiaohui never responded at all.

“Crunch.” I’m probably a useless hamster.

Chen Chengduo could hear the squeaky voice with obvious frustration. He reached out and poked Shu Xiaohui’s waist. “Be good, don’t be sad.”

Hearing Chen Chengduo’s words, Shu Xiaohui became more and more depressed. He was a darling who could not enhance his fighting power. No to mention he was so small and easy to die. How could he not feel sorry just by Chen Chengduo’s powerful words? It could almost be said that Chen Chengduo’s life was directly put on the edge of life and death.

The three people over there waited for a moment and watch Chen Chengduo, the duo. But there was no reaction at all. They then asked, “What’s wrong with you, boss? If you don’t know how to do it, let us show you how to do it?”

Chen Chengduo’s hand followed along the hairs of hamster and said, “There are different kinds of abilities, so its fighting power can not be integrated.”

The three people sighed silently for their boss, which seemed a bit too far behind.

It was a pity that the Warpet was so small that it can’t be turned into an energy body to provide combat power. There’s also no self-protection for combat effectiveness.

“It’s all right, Boss. We’ll protect the little grey hamster with you.” Li Hui said.

The other two nodded along. Although they felt that it’s a pity, they did not discriminate against Shu Xiaohui at all. The warpet was passive to accept human beings. Whatever the warpet was, it was their symbiotic companion.

“Actually, eldest brother, you are so fierce. Even we can’t increase our fighting power twice as much as you. If you increase it twice, it will be against the heaven.”

Shu Xiaohui thought silently that he not only did he want to improve Chen Chengduo’s fighting power twice, but also wanted to improve it by three or four times. How good would it be to roll around all the semi-mechanical beasts?

Chen Chengduo, who held his warpet in his hand, suddenly gained a huge amount of energy. All the metal-made objects around him flew up to the sky. The powerful field of power whirled around him, and almost instantaneously pulled out the reinforcing bars from several floors.

Seeing the whole building began to shake, Chen Chengduo suddenly shook his hands. All the metals he unknowingly pulled out were mixed up together to form a metal mesh that securely supported the building that was about to collapse.

“Come on!” Chen Chengduo gritted his teeth and growled.

Shi Rui and Suo Bin quickly got on the car and left the building immediately.

After the two men drove away, Li Hui pulled Chen Chengduo’s clothes, running at the fastest speed power, and brought him out.

When everyone was safe, Chen Chengduo’s strength reached its limit. The whole office building lost its support and collapsed immediately. The building, which was full of holes, soon collapsed.

Chen Chengduo leaned against the car’s door catching his breath while looking at his warpet in a hurry. At the moment, the little hamster was curled up into a ball, breathing rapidly, and his whole body was shaking non-stop.

Chen Chengduo covered the mouse ball in his palm. “Shu Xiaohui, take it easy. Relax. You are too tired. Close your eyes and sleep.”

“Boss, what’s wrong with it?”

Seeing that his warpet had finally calmed down, Chen Chengduo said with relief, “He has increased my fighting power four times in a short time.”

They stared at Chen Chengduo’s curled hamster in his hands in horror. Sure enough, eldest brother’s Warpet should not be judged solely based on its appearance.
